Mauricio Cortes Ortega
Brooklyn, NY

Mauricio Cortes reimagines still life through printmaking, painting, and drawing, blending the real and the fantastical. His zoomorphic vessels explore humanity’s deep-rooted use of animals, plants, and myths to shape identity and values. Drawing on Enrique Dussel’s transmodernity, he critiques colonial histories and recontextualizes historical objects into layered, dynamic narratives. His meticulous process—melding research, collage, and print techniques—challenges perceptions, inviting deeper engagement with history, culture, and representation.
