Nicholas Dowgwillo

Detroit, MI

Nicholas Dowgwillo is a Detroit-based artist known for his experimental and poetic explorations of plants and places. His work encompasses sculpture, land art, and installation but the core of his practice is in printmaking (etching, lithography, and woodcut).


Nick holds an MFA in printmaking from Arizona State University. In 2016 he founded Temple of Print, a cooperative print studio dedicated to providing Detroit artists access to printmaking equipment, expertise, and community. He also directs the printmaking studio at University of Michigan where, in addition to keeping the shop running, he collaborates with visiting artists on various print projects.


His work is held in a number of public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum (London) and Tama Art University Museum (Tokyo). Recent shows include Stone is a slow river, raging (Michigan), Warp/Wrap (Rhode Island), and Solid States (Hong Kong).
